For some, it's as easy as putting
on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, and perhaps a blazer, and that's it. That's their
style. Think Ellen Degeneres.
Tell me, have you seen Ellen in a
dress? The answer is, no. Because it's not her style. It does not fit her
personality.

Buying Plus
Size Coats for Women
This takes a bit more serious thought because it is an
investment. Good coats in the bigger sizes tend to run $50 to $100 more the regular misses size. So it is
understandable that our coats, whether they're winter or for spring, should last us a few
seasons.
Try to avoid coats that are fads, that are too trendy, whose cuts do not give the
illusion of long and lean.
By doing this, you're ensuring that you can still wear
your coats for a couple more seasons without fear of being dated. Invest in a good brand and a great style.
Plus Size Coats for Women are now available from designers who have beautifully updated the
classic cut with little touches of femininity or splashes of color to highlight either the collar or the
sleeves.
Here are some of the most popular Plus Size Coats for
Women:
Pea coat
It is timeless and classic. They are simple enough for day, and
yet dressy enough for evening, depending on the material. The Pea coat has a double row of
buttons and a stylish collar. Though only one row of buttons are functional, it has symmetry and a clean,
finished look. This modern style plus size pea coat can be dressed up or down with slacks and
heels, or jeans and boots. Pea coats nowadays are made from lighter wool, they are more supple, so a gentle
drape is achieved. Most modern pea coats are not bulky and heavy, and more importantly, they look sleek and
lean, even in the bigger sizes.
Bomber Jacket
This is a style that you have be wary of, if you are top heavy.
Most bomber jackets tend to come in the slimmer cuts. So choose one that give enough room in
the shoulders and chest. If you find a size and a color that is classic, then go for it!
This is an old style made over, and in the plus size coats for
women, the cut is longer so it does not stop at the waist. Again, this is a great style, just be sure that it
fits right.
Anorak, Car Coats and Parka
These coats are great and very versatile for day. These are
the,"active coats" because they do not restrict movement, are looser in cut, and the fabric,
especially micro fiber, is silky to the touch. Yet it keeps you ultra warm. Plus size coats for women
have truly come a long way. Micro fiber coats were not available in these sizes before. And yet
today, these is one of the best selling coats, even though they tend to be pricier than the fleece active
coats.
Hooded Toggle Wool Coat
This is the coat to buy to keep you warm during the winter
season. Today's wool is lighter and yet warmer. It is smoother and silkier. When we were kids, my
mother forced us to wear itchy, coarse and stiff wool coats. I literally ran away from her whenever
I spotted her bringing mine down the driveway. I refused to submit to the torture! Well, good news sisters, these
new wool coats are not like those coats!
In some toggle coats, the hood is detachable, which makes
it more versatile. When buying this coat, make sure that the length is right for your height. Because they tend to
run longer, you might have to invest in good alteration. Believe me, it is well worth it!
Walking Coat, Maxi Tunic and the Raincoat
These coats tend to be made of lighter fabrics and are great
for spring and the transition from Fall to Winter. Good plus size coats for women in these
styles are available in a variety of colors, from Easter colors to the more muted earth colors for Fall and
Winter. Unfortunately, these coats show wear and tear easily, so invest in a good brand and a heavier fabric.
The extra dollars now will translate into many more seasons of wear!
Black Leather Coat
I rest my case. Yes, contrary to popular belief, the long black
leather coat is available in Plus Size. This coat is my favorite. I have one that's more
than ten years old. Even back then, I knew to invest in a good brand, a good, soft and supple leather, and
since the first day I wore it, till the last run to the supermarket this morning, I always get
compliments. It never fails.
This is one coat where it is imperative that you spend the
extra bucks. A cheap leather coat will, I hate to tell you this, look like a cheap leather coat. Do you go
for the shiny leather or the matte leather?
Try them both. It's a matter of
preference.
I have the matte style. It is understated and sleek. And yet,
whenever I wear it, I get a feeling of satisfaction because this style is me. Not only does it keeps me warm,
but it makes me feel confidently stylish. I used to think that leather coats were for
regular sized women. How wrong I was. I see a lot of plus size women nowadays wearing
leather coats and everybody just looks so stylish.
So here we are. Now you know the different styles in
Plus Size Coats for Women. Invest in the right coat. Make sure it's the right fit.
And more importantly, wear it with confidence.
Pretty and Practical? No, not enough! Stylish and elegant?
Yes. That's the coat for you!
